What is Microneedling?

All Your Questions Answered

Micro-needling (also known as Dermal Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy) is an effective and highly sort-after skin rejuvenation treatment. It creates microscopic breaks in the blood vessels below the skin’s surface, causing a mild trauma to create platelets that release a series of growth factors; this promotes the production of collagen and elastin and is used for reducing scars caused by acne, surgery, or burns. It fades stretch marks, reduces fine lines, evens skin tone and tightens sagging skin.

How Does it Work?

Micro-needling uses tiny needles that are set within a hand held roller. The technology aims to create a precise injury to the the skin’s surface, inducing the body to respond by forming new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers. The skin plumps and thickens in response to this stimulus and the channels made from the micro-needles allow topical serums to be absorbed more effectively through the top layer of skin.

Up to 240 tiny needles measuring 1.5mm are found on the roller

What can I expect during the treatment?

Micro-needling is an in-salon treatment that does not require general anesthesia. First, the skin is cleansed and treated with a topical numbing cream to minimise any discomfort. The procedure takes 20-30 minutes, depending on the area treated. Some pressure sensations might be felt however these will not be painful.

What are the results?

Recovery depends on the length of the needle used. The skin will be red for 24-48 hours, similar to a sunburn. The skin may also feel flushed, tight and itchy for the first 24 hours. It can take between 6-8 weeks before visible signs of skin regeneration are seen and the process will continue to evolve over time. Although a single treatment can provide a noticeable result, a series of 2-3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart, is recommended to achieve optimal results.
